Permits and Licensing
OVERVIEW
The By-Law Enforcement Office of the Clerk's Department enforces By-Laws associated with Health & Safety, Land Use, Building and Property Maintenance, all of which contribute to the orderly growth and development of the community.
The By-Law Enforcement Office usually operates on a complaint basis however, a proactive approach is often necessary. Here are some examples that cause either a Proactive or a Reactive response.

BY-LAW COMPLAINT PROCESSING
The Process
Written complaints must be forwarded to the municipality; while the municipality will offer assistance and direction with respect to a By-Law concern over the phone or in person; staff will not initiate an investigation without first receiving the complaint in writing. Letters of complaints will not be released to anyone. Complainants are protected under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Complaints may be recorded on a Formal Complaint Form which can be submitted by hand, postal service or e-mail.
Once a complaint is received, staff will conduct an investigation to determine the validity of the complaint and the nature of the infraction relative to our existing By-Laws.
Should an infraction exist, subsequent work is carried out which may include a Notice, an Order Requiring Compliance or charges being laid.

PERMITS AND LICENSING
The Township of Scugog By-Law Enforcement Office provides a number of services over and above complaint investigation. They also issue licences and permits in accordance with our By-Laws.
Some types of permits and licences include:
Business Licence
Any person who operates an Adult Entertainment Parlour,Fireworks Sales/Displays,Salvage Yards/Second Hand Goods, Hawkers & Peddlers, Refreshment Vehicles, Taxicabs, and Carnivals, Midways & Special Events are required to obtain a Business Licence and comply with the Business Licence By-Law.
Fence Variance
Any person who wishes to erect a fence that does not comply with the Township of Scugog Fence By-Law can make an application for a Fence Variance.
Kennel Licence
Any person wishing to operate a Kennel within the Township of Scugog must first obtain a Kennel Licence in accordance with the Animal Control By-Law.
Pool Permit
Any person who wishes to erect a swimming pool or hot tub is required to obtain a Pool Permit.
Portable Sign Permit
Any person wishing to erect a portable sign is required to obtain a Portable Sign Permit.
Portable Signs include A-Frames, sandwich boards and mobile signs.
