Vision for Leisure Services in Scugog

Township of Scugog residents have opportunities and are encouraged to participate in leisure experiences that contribute to overall health and wellness; to enjoy the Township's protected and well managed parks, trails and open spaces; and to experience the Township's heritage and cultural resources. These opportunities are provided through strong, collaborative partnerships that support the provision of quality indoor and outdoor leisure facilities and spaces. Services are provided in a manner that maximizes efficient and effective management of the Township's resources.

The Department's mandate is delivered through the Parks & Facilities and Culture & Recreation Divisions, the department operates and maintains facilities including; Scugog and Blackstock Arenas, Birdseye Aquatic Centre and the Scugog Shores Museum. The department also manages the parks system, recreational trails, and open spaces.

The department also works with community groups, volunteers, and individuals to ensure that community leisure needs are addressed.

Twice a year, the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department produces the Leisure Activity Guide, which provides information about programs available through the Township and other community leisure service providers. These would include; parks, recreation trails, facilities, senior activities, children and youth programs and much more! The Spring/Summer Guide is distributed to residents in March with the Fall/Winter Guide being distributed in September.

The Department completed a Parks, Recreation and Culture Stategic Master Plan in 2007. The plan can be viewed on the department's "Documents and Forms" section. The plan "maps" out a blueprint for the Township to follow over the next ten years in the delivery of parks, recreation and cultural services to this community.
